Theiss Scholarship

On May 16, 2007 the Houston Section of the American Welding Society announced the endowment of the Ronald S. Theiss Scholarship through the AWS Foundation.

The current Ronald S. Theiss Scholarship was founded in 2004 and is funded solely by fund raising events conducted by the Houston Section of AWS.  In its new format, funds for the Ronald S. Theiss Scholarship will be placed into an account and be administered nationally by the AWS Foundation. The principal will remain in this account, and the interest will be used to fund scholarships for Houston Section students.  This national endowment insures the continuation of  this scholarship for deserving students and cannot be revoked.

The Houston Section Board of Directors approved the allocation of funds earlier this year to serve as a match for private donors and is now inviting outside contributors to help with the endeavor. The Houston Section will match the first ten-thousand dollars of funds raised.

Ronald Theiss has served as an educator in the fields of welding and inspection for over 30 years. He has served on the Houston Section Board of Directors in every capacity, and is also a Past District Director. This fall at the AWS National Show, Ron will receive the Howard E. Adkins Memorial Instructor Membership Award , which nationally recognizes instructors for their outstanding teaching accomplishments.

Donations to the Ronald S. Theiss Scholarship Fund will help further the education of students aspiring to fields in welding, welding engineering, inspection and other welding related fields.   Donations are tax deductible and are now being collected by the Houston Section. Please contact John Husfeld at 832.876.6097 for details.
